The degree of sleep problems, anxiety, and stress is the basis for determining the weight of your weighted blanket. Generally, the more severe the sleep problems, the heavier the blanket, and less sleep difficulty often means a lower weight blanket can be suitable.
Body weight does not determine the choice of weight.

The person using the blanket should be able to move freely and take off the blanket without difficulty. If they cannot, the weighted blanket is too heavy.
To help you find the right weight for your weighted blanket, we have developed a weight selector with the assistance of our occupational therapists. It helps you determine the right weight through a few questions.
For almost 10 years, our weighted blankets have helped people achieve better sleep. The weight selector’s formula is based on many years of experience and clinical work with weighted blankets, and its questions are weighted to provide you with the best possible recommendation.

Weighted blankets for children can work wonders for both the child and the parents. However, there are some important considerations. The appropriate weight and type of blanket can vary individually. Safety is paramount, so it’s crucial to be cautious with small children who haven’t fully developed lung capacity and/or physical ability. Therefore, we strongly advise against using weighted blankets for children under 3 years old.
Above all, it’s important that the child can independently take off the blanket and move freely underneath it. The child should be able to express if they don’t want to wear it. It’s essential to consider each individual’s preferences when determining the weight.
Important points to consider with weighted blankets for children:
Safety is our priority. That’s why we always offer a free consultation with an experienced occupational therapist when buying a weighted blanket for a child. Our occupational therapists have several years of experience in clinical work with weighted blankets, including in child and adolescent psychiatry, habilitation, and neurological rehabilitation.
We also offer the option to exchange the weight of the blanket if it doesn’t suit, also entirely free of charge.

General advice regarding the weight of weighted blankets for children:
All advice is general, and it’s impossible to determine what suits a specific person until they have tried the blanket.
Start using a weighted blanket.
Some children and even adults can sleep with the blanket from the first night, while others may find it heavy and need to get used to it, perhaps by using it on the couch for a few evenings before introducing it to the bedroom and bed.

TheFiber Weighted Vest looks like a regular garment that can be worn at school, work, or at home. The weighted vest envelops the body, much like a hug, and influences the body’s proprioceptive senses (movement and positional sense), providing the wearer with a soothing calmness and improved ability to concentrate.
The vest features a sturdy, built-in elastic band at the waist that can be adjusted according to personal preference. This allows for the regulation of the feeling of weight and pressure, and the elastic band also helps alleviate strain on the back and shoulders. The weight comes from the filling of soft polyester fiber threads. The filling ensures that the weight is evenly distributed across the entire vest, making it flexible and comfortable to wear, even for extended periods.
Developed in consultation with psychiatrists and stress therapists, the vest is classified as a medical aid.

A study from Halmstad University shows that children using soft Fiber weighted blankets improved their sleep.
They fell asleep faster, woke up fewer times during the night, and developed better sleep routines. The overall well-being among the children also improved, with increased relaxation, reduced anxiety, and increased joy in life.
In summary, parents described the following effects of the fibertyngdtäcket:
Improved sleep continuity and better routines
Parents described that the children had improved sleep continuity and better sleep routines. They slept more calmly, deeply, and continuously, thus getting more hours of night sleep than before using the weighted blanket.
Faster falling asleep
Children fell asleep faster with the weighted blanket. Before using the blanket, several parents reported that their children had difficulty calming down, resting, and falling asleep when lying in bed.
Increased relaxation
Parents also mentioned that the weighted blanket gave a feeling of being touched and embraced, providing calmness, comfort, and relaxation for the children.
Increased well-being and less anxiety
The use of the weighted blanket also improved their children’s well-being, reducing anxiety. The previous fear of not being able to fall asleep or sleep through the night disappeared when using the weighted blanket. Reduced anxiety also allowed children to focus, decrease hyperactivity and stress, contributing to a more stable mood.
Better life balance
Good sleep with the weighted blanket facilitated the children’s daily lives and gave them better balance, which had a positive effect in school and on extracurricular activities. They experienced that the children participated more actively in family and leisure activities.

A weighted blanket typically works by providing deep touch pressure (DTP) or deep pressure stimulation (DPS) to the body. This pressure mimics the sensation of being held or hugged, creating a sense of security and calmness. Here’s how it generally works:
It’s important to note that while many people benefit from weighted blankets, individual responses can vary. People with certain health conditions or concerns should consult with a healthcare professional before using a weighted blanket, especially if they have respiratory or circulatory issues.

It is very common to feel tired when you are pregnant, especially in the beginning and towards the end. It can be challenging to deal with such fatigue. However, tiredness is the body’s way of signaling that you need to take it easy and get more sleep.
Using a weighted blanket during pregnancy is not harmful in any way. Some may feel discomfort from pressure on the abdomen, while others may not. It is entirely individual.

To maintain hygiene and a top bed environment, beddings including blankets and pillows need to be washed regularly. We usually recommend washing your weighted blanket at least once a year.
A common issue with weighted blankets is that they cannot be washed in a washing machine. Even though the blanket itself can handle it, it’s not possible because most washing machines have a maximum capacity of 6-8 kg.
Thanks to innovative design and good quality, you can wash all Novista’s weighted blankets in the washing machine, regardless of weight. Our blankets are divisible with a zipper, allowing even the heaviest weights to be washed in the washing machine at home. If your washing machine can handle washing both parts of the blanket at the same time, that’s fine; otherwise, wash one part at a time. All blankets can be washed at 60 degrees, but for the sake of the environment, you can lower the temperature.
The only weighted blanket that withstands the washing machine and dryer
As the only weighted blanket on the market, our soft weighted blankets are of such high quality that they can be perfectly tumble-dried at home. This means you never have to worry about sleeping without the blanket!

We strongly advise against using any type of weighted blankets if you sleep with an infant in the bed. This is because the child is not able to remove the blanket on their own, and lung capacity is not yet fully developed in very young children. The weighted blanket should not be used in bed with children under three years old.
